CIRCA Seminar 20th February
There will be a CIRCA lunchtime seminar on Thursday 20th February at 1pm in Maths Lecture Theatre B.
Simon Dobson and Colva Roney-Dougal will speak.
Simon’s Title: Network (and epidemic) curvature
Simon’s Abstract: Networks and graphs often don’t have geometry, so how can they have curvature? Mathematicians have helpfully defined some notions that relate to network, though, letting us potentially think about processes such as epidemics running over networks as being affected by curvature. This talk explores some early and ill-formed ideas we have relating to how curvature might be used to explain some otherwise hard-to-grasp features of epidemic spreading such as why some outbreaks self-quarantine and others don’t.
Colva’s Title: Making random elements of finite groups
